What can I expect from my rhinoplasty consultation?

Rhinoplasty is a personal decision and should never be taken lightly. Dr. Serhan will consult with you during the initial consultation and discuss your reasons for nose surgery to determine if it’s the right option for you. He will always take the time necessary to answer every question you have thoroughly without making you feel rushed in any way whatsoever. Dr. Serhan uses computer imaging so you can see visually what your end result will look like and will develop your treatment plan based on your personal goals.

What is the difference between cosmetic rhinoplasty and functional rhinoplasty?

cosmetic rhinoplasty addresses aesthetic problems, whereas functional rhinoplasty addresses the main function of the nose – breathing. If both solutions are needed, the procedures can be done simultaneously. Some patients with functional issues decide on adding a few cosmetic touches during their functional rhinoplasty. Dr. Serhan will strive to improve both – the aesthetics and functionality of your nose.

Are there any side effects of a rhinoplasty surgery?

Rhinoplasty is considered a low-risk procedure compared to other forms of cosmetic surgery. However, there are side effects and risks associated with any kind of surgical procedure. Dr. Serhan Derin and his care team will discuss these with you and make sure you’re well informed about your surgery before you have it. The most common temporary side effects of rhinoplasty surgery; bruising, pain, swelling, soreness and tenderness.

How long does a typical rhinoplasty take to perform?

It depends on the extent of the changes being made to the nose. Minimal changes will generally take 1 to 1.5 hours. If there are more extensive changes taking place, then the surgery could last between 2 to 4 hours.

Can rhinoplasty be combined with other procedures?

Yes, it’s possible to combine rhinoplasty with other cosmetic procedures. Chin augmentation is an especially popular procedure to combine with a rhinoplasty. When deciding if combining procedures is best for you, Dr. Serhan will consider factors such as how many hours you will be under anesthesia, how your recovery will be affected and how each procedure is performed, with your safety as the priority.

Will I have bruising after surgery?

You may or may not have bruising depending upon the details of your specific surgery. Patients who bruise easily, have thin or fair skin, or require repositioning of the nasal bones will be more likely to bruise than patients who do not. Most bruising resolves around 10-12 days after surgery.

When can I wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

Actually, there is no exact answer for this question. We advise our patients to wait for 2 months if the frames of the glasses are heavy. If you wear lightweight glasses, such as titanium eyeglass frames, you can start wearing them after 1 month.
